    A Metrics message for you:

    Metrics are numbers, and management by the numbers is a practice that is well
      understood. Whether you call them KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) or see them
      as lights on a dashboard, they only have real business value when:
            You know what they mean  define them.
            You know what is the current state  baseline them.
            You know what a good result looks like  benchmark them.
            You deliver them IN CONTEXT with appropriate footnotes  be honest about them.
