Kasabian Empire
Throughout the digipak, a yellow colour scheme is used in order to make it look "old" as the
main images are related with older periods of time, along with tradition black used for the fonts.
The other colours used are not as dominant and seem to appear on the "king" character - this
could be to emphasise him. The colour red is quite strong as the banner declaring the name of
the album "Empire" is in this colour; this could be because empires are usually gained through
war and defeat and red has connotations of blood which links to the idea of conquering. The
digipak contains the album disc, along with an additional DVD. The DVD shows music videos
from the album, and extras such songs from the bands next album. Having this additional
information allows for the customer to gain extra value for money and also feel more "involved"
with the band as they will be hearing unheard tracks - which not many others will be able to
hear. I believe this is a good idea and may encourage me to put in my digipak. Furthermore, the
digipak involved hand drawn images of the members of the band with additional messages. This
again allows for the buyer to feel important and "in touch" with the band, which will in turn lead
them to buying the digipak.
The main image throughout the "Empire"digipak by Kasabian is a playing card as seen by the K
and the club symbol; showing the image to be a modern version of the "King" playing card,
which links in to the album name of "Empire

Rihanna Loud
The main image on the front cover is the artist which is a
convention of a pop artist as they focus on their image. This
photograph takes up the whole front cover to capture attention
and to use the artist to sell the CD. Rihanna is physically
attractive so the CD cover makes use of this to attract potential
buyers and to appeal her demographic audience. Her lips and
hair are the most noticeable part of the image as they are
bright red. This again is the conventions of a female pop artist
as they focus on their hair and make-up to appeal the their
audiences.
The text used on the front cover is hard to notice and very
refined in order to maintain most attention on the picture of
the artist. The text reads her name and the name of the
album 'LOUD' which are both written in simple fonts for the
same reason of not diverting any attention away from Rihanna.
The texts are located at the top and bottom of the page so that
the image is the emphasised and the first thing you see.

The Kooks- Inside In The Inside Out
The main title is made up of red ands black
font which stand outs from the blank washed
out background. Part of the title is highlighted
in black ‘The Kooks’ which is the bands name
therefore bringing more attention to them.
All of the band members are on the front cover
of the album meaning that they do want
people to know their band image however they
are all facing away from the camera which
suggests that the Kooks main focus is their music
as they are also holding instruments.
Throughout the whole design of the digipak the
same colour scheme is used which is black, white
and red. The red is contrasted with the black and
white effect because it is bold and makes it stand
out against the monochrome background.
From looking at the digipak we can tell that it
is from an indie rock band due to them
holding instruments as if they are playing a
song. Also this is supported by the clothing
they are wearing such as skinny jeans and
have indie style hair.
The CD carries on with the colour scheme
as it is a bright red colour with black and
white bold writing. The contrast between
the colours would attract people as it very
noticeable. The hole in the CD has been
integrated into the name of the band ‘The
Kooks which makes the CD unique.

Jay-Z and Linkin Park Collision Course
The album 'Collision Course' is a collaboration album between
rapper Jay-Z and punk band Linkin Park and the digipak reflects this
through its artwork and theme. The style is very street based with the
use of graffiti styled prints and stencil style fonts. The cover of the
digipak is vey hectic. The background is the texture of a wall with
graffiti art of various musical lexis such as turntables, speakers,
microphones etc. This could be thought to be conventional hip-hop
as hip-hop is influenced a lot by street culture so the use of this
terminology could be a reflection of this. As well as reflecting hip-
hop culture, the cover of the digipak could also be considered a
representation of the punk genre. The style of the text and imagery
behind it is very busy and quite aggressive in a sense that the cover
of the digipak isn't simple and chilled out. This digipak cover is a mix
between these two genres.
The artwork throughout the digipak similar throughout keeping the
same theme of mixing both genres. The panels all include the wall
texture with various pieces of graffiti prints which are related to
music and sound which an be argued to be conventional of hip-
hop. The CD itself continues this theme. The background is mixture of
blue and black graffiti blend into each other with which again is
linked with street culture also the fonts are similar throughout as they
have a stencil look.
