What is
Acoustic
Absorption
Sound passing around a space and being absorbed.
All items have acoustic absorption properties.
Example is when moving into a new home and the rooms
sound incredibly echoey.
As you add more furnishings it all starts to dampen the
sound and reduce the sound reverberating around the
space.
What you find is that the more items in a room the quieter it
feels.
Testing for Acoustic Absorption is ENISO 354

Testing
When Sound hits a reflective surface it
passes around the space. A good
example is a squash court. Very loud
and keeps reverberating around the
space.
By using a large reverberant space an
item can be tested for acoustic
absorption. ENISO 354
It can be calculated how much sound
energy is absorbed by the material
tested in the lab.

This tests dictates how much sound passes
between 2 spaces.
Test is done with 2 chambers – A sound is
released in 1 and then measured in the
neighbourign chamber
The gap between the 2 chambers is where
you mount the item to be tested.
The results are given as a DB reduction

Problem – Road Noise
Our curtain has been tested with a double glazed window and
it saw a 4db uplift over and above the window
No other product as far as we can see has had a similar test
done. May 2020

Our product – It Is tested. It has the ENISO 717 Insulation test and the
absorption test.
Remember – It is a curtain it isnt going to perform like a double glazed
window or wall.
Expectations
Mass/ Density. Is what drives acoustics. So a heavy and more dense product
the more sound blocking it will do.
To increase absorption and reduce sound energy an item needs to have
surface area and softness.
Our product combines these elements. At the same time the weight has to
be limited otherwise it wont mount to the wall.
Keeping the weight to a usable amount.

FAQ
•Will your Curtain Reduce Road Noise?
In short it should, if you have solid walls, Acoustic glass and secondary glazing
glazing it wont be as much. However we have had clients say they still notice
a difference. Particularly on higher frequencies. Reviews to say they do even
with the highest level setup.
•Does Doubling the Product up give double the performance?
NO! This will not work. Mass law states that double the weight you should get
get upto 3db uplift. In reality you don’t get this. As the materials are focussing
focussing on the same frequencies.
•Will your Divider Curtain Certified to 11db give that over a window?
No the curtain will not as the window is doing the work. This is the same with
with doors and walls. As shown with a window the curtain does 4db uplift

FAQ Continued
Will your Curtain Stop Sound Entering an Office with Door closed if
put across the Door?
It will help but as with the window the door is doing most of the
work. You would expect a small uplift similar to the window.
If I put your curtains over the wall will it stop the sound passing to
next room?
The curtains are adding another layer so it will reduce the sound a
little. But the wall is doing the main work
Will your curtain reduce the drums sound passing out of the room?
The curtains will absorb and reduce the sound with the space and
reduce it passing out. But they are just curtains. You would expect
and improvement between 3-7 db. But difficult to quantify and
test.

FAQ Continued
Do sound blocking curtains work?
Yes they do. All tested and certified. All related to the application – so if you
you have high level acoustic glass it wont be as much as a standard glazing.
In an open space they will work well as nothing else blocking sound in the
space.
How to Install the curtains
A heavy duty metal curtain track mounted above the reveal by 20+cm and to
to floor and past opening by 30cm. This will give you the best results. As
stops the sound passing around the curtain.
Will reducing the fullness of the curtain reduce the effectiveness?
The more fabric and weight the better it performs, the 11db result was
when tested flat across the aperture.

Curtains are tested and certified
You will get a thermal benefit as they are thick and blackout.
REMEMBER
They are just curtains, you will see the most performance as a
room divider upto 11/12db
10db is half as loud. Logarithmic scale.
4db for window curtains will be noticeably but not dramatic.
Anything is better than nothing
