Your Life of Prayer
Verse to Remember John 16:24
In the previous lesson we learned about your personal bible study with the Lord and that¡¯s a
way you can grow spiritually. Today we will be going over another way to grow closer to the Lord and
grow spiritually in having a life of daily prayer.
Jesus has left us with a great example. In the four gospels we can see Jesus¡¯s life while he was on
earth. And we can see in 22 occasions where Jesus is praying. Jesus being the Son of God could not live
his life without praying, the same should go for us.
The bible talks a lot of prayer, and it exhorts us to pray. It also shows us what is the right way to
pray. And we are promised big blessings when we pray. The bible presents many examples of prayer
that edifices us. We will be looking at today three different ways you can pray: worship, confession and
petition. John 4:23 shows that God is seeking people that worship him ¡°in spirit and in truth¡±. And Lord
wants you to be one of those kinds of people. Set time every day to pray to the Lord with worship and
thanksgiving. You worship God for who he is and give thanksgiving for what he done and does.
Two things happen when you practice worship. One is you please the Lord. ¡°Whoever offers
praise, glorifies Me;¡± (Psalms 50:23). And second you build your faith. ¡°And those who know your
name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord have not forsaken those who seek You.¡± (Psalms 9:10)
Your praise and worship should be joined with thanksgiving. Let¡¯s read 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and
Ephesians 5:20. In the first passage we see we must give thanksgiving in ¡°everything¡±.
Another part of prayer is your confession to the Lord. All sin breaks our intimacy with the Lord.
After you worship the Lord take time in the presence of the Lord to exam your life and see if there is
something that must be confessed. Psalms 139:23-24. Confess and know God is faithful and true to
forgive and clean you of all unrighteousness which is promised in 1 John 1:9.
Let¡¯s look at Matthew 6:9-13 where Jesus gives us an example how to pray. We can see in the
prayer of Jesus that we can ask the Lord for our daily needs and come in front of him with our petitions.
Asking him to provide for our basic needs of food, money or shelter. Also, in our prayer life we can
intercede for others, which means we can pray for other people and any need you see in their lives my it
be, health, happiness, or salvation.
We need to practice a life of prayer to have intimacy with the Lord. Also, in John 16:24 it says
¡°Until now you have asking nothing in my name Ask and you receive that your joy may be full.¡± This
passage should be a reminder that somethings we don¡¯t have because we have never asked the Lord.
Take time every day to ask God for every need you have and share your heart with the Lord.
