The Nintendo 64 controller had an unconventional design that was inconsistent with players' expectations and provided little feedback. It featured a joystick for movement and looking around but placed buttons in odd locations, like "C buttons" that strafed left and right or looked up and down. The shoulder buttons aimed using a reticle controlled by the joystick but gave no tactile feedback, confusing players on how to properly hold and use the unique controller.
