The Red Cross was founded by Henry Dunant after witnessing the aftermath of the Battle of Solferino in 1859. He helped wounded soldiers from both sides and later wrote a book about his experiences, which led to the establishment of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The Movement uses the Red Cross, Red Crescent, and Red Crystal symbols to remain neutral and impartial in providing humanitarian aid during armed conflicts and natural disasters around the world based on the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross. The Kenya Red Cross Society was established in 1965 and operates through a network of 63 branches across the country to carry out relief work and promote health and humanitarian values based on its legal mandate.
