Interdenominational Christian ministry K-
Life hosted its third annual dodgeball
tournament at Sunnybrook Church on
Friday night and all day Saturday.
"There are teams from all over the state
competing, and we are excited to have this opportunity to partner with the community and have fun
showing Christ's love," Kearns said. "Our goal every time we do an event is to have a lot of fun and
create an awesome fellowship opportunity for people."
Teams got creative with their names: Derek Zoolander's Team, Dolphin Sharks, Uber
OOmpaloompas and The Prisoners of Azkaban were a few teams that made chatter throughout
the auditorium.
Ben Frizzell, a political science sophomore and member of the Golden Dodgeball-winning team,
"So You Think You Can Dodge," and Abbey Lyle, an interior design junior, are two devoted
volunteers.
"I grew up involved in youth, and I know how important it is to be involved in a kid's life," Lyle said.
"This is a great way to serve, and I love it."
College night featured 11 teams, but only one could be crowned the Golden Dodgeball Champion.
"So You Think You Can Dodge," also won the title in 2011.
With concepts such as the "side hug cam" and "show us your moves cam," Ocho commentators
Kearns and Cody Chaloner were dishing out the play-by-play and slapstick humor throughout
Friday night and into Saturday with the elementary and adult tournaments.
"People are going to get mad at me, but I am trying my best to make the right calls," said Josh
Cooper, senior football wide receiver. "I have to watch both sides of the court and keep everyone in
line. I'm all over the place."
