Domestic Dispute Response

When notified of a domestic dispute at a hotel, security officers should respond cautiously with at least one officer and a manager to diffuse the situation. They should separate the individuals involved into different rooms if possible for safety, without sharing the new locations with any abusers. Medical response should not be delayed for any serious injuries, and all incidents of abuse or impairment should be documented. Security should call 911 if disputes become uncontrollable or an assault is reported or witnessed. Follow up patrols may be done to check on involved parties.

Dispatched by Neighbors What is heard or witnessed? Called by Spouse (or significant other) Status of caller or abuser, impaired, mental illness, etc., past history When to dispatch 911 If weapons are involved, when physical violence is heard on phone when there is screaming and or medical distress. Response At least one Security Officer and Manager If available 2 security officers and one manager, Security Supervisor response if on Duty. Safety of responders important Respond quickly and cautiously Call for back up as needed. Diffuse Separate and isolate into another room Generally women (not always) will want to leave and go into another guest room. This information is not shared with abuser Above room separations normally works as abuser will not know new location. Re key room One or both parties may be asked to leave based on severity. Insure proper medical response Provide First Aid and medical attention. Do not delay medical response Call 911 for serious medical conditions. Document all abuse reported and observed Document actions indicating abuse and impairment. When to call 911 When dispute is uncontrollable and personal safety is in danger. When victim advises they have been Assaulted and would like to make a When you witness an assault. police report When there are serious or apparent medical injuries.
