1. PLANNINGOFDOUBLING OF B.G.RAILWAY LINE AT UTRAITIA - ZAFRABAD
INTRODUCTION
Utraitia - Sultanpur- Zafrabad section in Lucknow Division of Northern Railway is laid
on broad gauge. In the recent past, the patch doubling from Zafrabad to Shri Krishna
Nagar (34 kms), Sultanpur to Bandhuakalan (09 kms) & Utraitia to Chandraulli (37
kms) has been completed. The balance 148 km stretch is with single railway track. The
whole of balance 148 kms length lies in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Keeping in view the
increased traffic on this route, it is very necessary to double the railway line as early as
possible with latest technology and economic cost.
SALIENT FEATURES OF PATCH DOUBLING (12.50 km)
BETWEEN UTRATIA - ZAFRABAD SECTION OF LUCKNOW

4. Scope of work
ï‚·I. Formation ï‚· Description:Approximately 2m high bank is
required to be made out of which top 60 cm
layer will be of blanketing material and below
that 1.4 m appropriate soil will be used. The
earthwork in formation shall be done as per
RDSO guidelines.
ï‚· Quantity: Earthwork in formation is 92,750 Cum
and blanketing is 39,750 Cum .
ï‚·II. Bridges ï‚· Description:for extension of existing minor
bridges (RCC slab, arch, Hume pipe),RCC

boxes having approved structural design have
been proposed to be constructed during
doubling of railway line. Since, this route is
defined DFC feeder route; hence, the
substructure of these bridges has been
designed for 32.5 axle load. All the concrete
work shall be carried out as per IS 456(latest
version).During execution due care shall be
taken that the existing bridges are not damaged
at any cost. All the drawings and design will be
got approved from the competent authority
before execution of work.
ï‚· Quantity: 48 Nos. ( 1m X 1m size )
ï‚·III. Track Ballast ï‚· 65 mm size machine crust hard stone ballast
as per RDSO specification will be used. 350
mm ballast cushion has been taken in main line
and 250 mm cushion in loop lines.
ï‚·IV. Rail and fastenings ï‚· 60 kg 90 UTS have been proposed in main line
and 60 kg second hand rails have been
proposed in loop line and sidings.
ï‚·V. Sleepers and
fastenings
ï‚· 60 kg PSC sleepers shall be used.
ï‚· Sleeper density in main line shall be 1660
sleeper per km and in loop lines 1540 sleeper
per km.

VI. Points & Crossings ï‚· 60 kg OR switches, CMS crossings etc. shall be
used.
VII. Level crossings
involved
ï‚· There are 14 Level crossings (unmanned = 07
Nos. , Manned =07 Nos.). The extension &

oblique up gradation of these level crossings
has been proposed keeping in view the
proposed doubling and TVU.
ï‚·VIII. Buildings and
Platforms
ï‚· Buildings: For increased scope of work the
station building is to be modified keeping in
view the revised requirement.
ï‚· Platforms: one high level passenger platform
9.15 m wide and 600m long has been
proposed to be provided for at Shivnagar
railway station
 FOB’s: one FOB of 2.5 m width has been
proposed between PF no. 1 &2 for
passengers.
ï‚· PP shelter: 1 PP shelter on PF no.2 has been
proposed to be provided.
ï‚·IX. S&T works ï‚· During doubling projects, S&T installations are
also to be executed as per requirement.

DAY 1: 12 APRIL 2015
Raising of PF & FOB works in Lucknow-Sultanpur – Varanasi section (Passenger
amenities work)
Date of Launching of Girder: 6th April, 2015.
Location: Anoopganj Railway Station on Lucknow-Sultanpur
Section.
Span of Girder: 30.50 meter.
DAY 2: 15 -20 JULY 2015
Witnessed launching of LHS(Limited Height Subway) at Faizabad by using cut and
cover method.
DAY 3: 23 AUGUST 2015
We went to Northern Railway office at Charbagh near KKC .we met the concerning
officer who gave us details about current status of the project. Those details are
mentioned in section above.
