Verghese Kurien was an Indian engineer known as the "Father of the White Revolution" for his pioneering work in Operation Flood, the world's largest dairy development program. He established the dairy cooperative model that transformed India's milk economy and made the country the largest milk producer in the world. Kurien received several prestigious Indian honors for his contributions, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan awards. He helped organize small farmers into dairy cooperatives for milk collection, processing and marketing, empowering milk producers economically.

B.E.(Mechanical) from the Madras University .
Went to USA to do his Masters in Mechanical
Engineering from Michigan State University.

Underwent nine months of specialized training in
dairy engineering at the National Dairy Research
Institute of Bangalore.

After 6 months all set to leave to city of Mumbai.
Assisted then Chairman of Kaira District Co-orprative Union(Amul)
Tribhuvandas Patel.
Operation Flood launched in 1971 with just 2 villages participating in
1942, 65 year later grown to 16,100 with 3.20 million milk producers
pouring millions of tonnes of milk into the GCMMF containers twice
daily.
Country's milk production shouts up from mere 20 MMT in 1960 to 122
MMT now.
Main contribution t0 design system & institutions.
Proved by Operation Flood creating National Milk grid.
Also helped reduce malpractices by milk producers and merchants.
He made the ordinary, neighborhood 'doodhwala' (milkman) a key
player in economic development and progress at the grassroot level.
5. Kurien put a finger on the problem of marginal dairy
farmers.
In 1960 came up with documentaries to promote Operation
Flood.
Five lakh farmers had joined the movement.
He often quoted he is a servant to the farmers.
Movement not that successful so backed the story of a film
makers on dairy Co-operation movement.
Movie named Manthan.
Used as example in the country.
Also screened for the United Nations Development
Programme.
