A pre-trip inspection involves thoroughly checking all components and parts of a vehicle prior to driving to identify any issues. This helps avoid breakdowns and accidents. The inspection should be conducted from front to back on both sides of the vehicle and trailer, checking fluid levels, wear and tear, leaks, loose nuts and bolts, lights, brakes, tires, suspension and more. Performing a full brake inspection is also important to ensure brake pressure does not drop significantly while braking. Regular pre-trip inspections help ensure safe and reliable vehicle operation.
2. Introduction
• What shall we be learning today?
1. What is a Pre Trip Inspection Check ?
2. Why do we need to pre-check vehicles/ Trucks ? and
3. What to look for during Pre Inspection Checks.
3. Purpose of Pre- Trip Inspection Check
The purpose of Pre Trip Inspection is to
critically assess all vehicle components
and units for proper working condition
prior to truck movement.
4. Benefits of Pre Trip Inspection
1. Avoid sudden Vehicle break down which
may result in:-
• accident and or serious body injury and
cost to the company.
• may also result to poor delivery time and
bad customer service.
5. Pre Trip Vehicle Inspection
Techniques
• Start from the front middle part of your truck
and work through the driver side to the back
trailer of your truck, through the passenger
side from the back to the front, end at the
front middle part of your truck where you
started.
6. What to look out for
1. Fluid Levels
2. Wear, Cracks, excess play etc.
3. Leakages
4. Cable peel off
5. Loosen Bolts and Nuts
7. Parts & Components to look for
• Engine Compartment
» Engine fluid levels, Belts,
» Pumps, Pipes, Hoses, Wires etc.
• Cabin Check
» Oil & Brake Pressure gauges.
» Temperature Gauge, Speedo Meter Reading etc.
8. Lightening & Body Inspection
• Right Hand side lights / indicator
• Body Overview
• Brake Pressure and Service Hoses
• Drive Axle, Hub and Tyres
• Propeller Shaft, Bearings and Brake Chamber
Pot.
• Suspension Leaf Spring, Shackles, U Bolts etc.
• Tail Light, Rear end indicator & side lights,
reflectors, etc .
9. Parts & Components Continue
• Left Hand side Rear indicator Light and reflectors
• Body Overview (Towards the front passenger side)
• Brake Pressure and Service Hoses
• Trailer Axle, Tyres, Dully, Brakes Shoe Inspection
etc
• Propeller Shaft and Brake Chamber Pot.
• Suspension Leaf Spring, Shackles, U Bolts etc.
• Fuel Tank
• Front end indicator lights etc .
10. Full Brake Application
• Start the engine and ensure that the brake
pressure gauge reaches its full limit; fully
press the brake pedal for a minute and
assess the pressure level performance.
Note:
The pressure level should not drop more
the 8psi for 24 a wheeler trailer etc.

• We have successfully looked at:-
1. What is a Pre Inspection Check.
2. Why do we need to pre-check vehicles / Trucks
before embarking on a trip.
