Very powerful couple. Lady compares Duke to Phoenix. Seems to haunt Baron, and doesn¡¯t seem to be done. 315: FR wants to dedicate kill to Lady, but she refuses. 315: B calls Count the errand boy of Emp. 316: Emp is angry at B for ordering Sard off Arrakis and not dealing better w/ Fremen. Rumors of greenery in S. Count doesn¡¯t stutter when discussing business. 318: B thinks of using Arrakis like Salusus Secundus. Count wants Hawat dead--knows too much. 319: B thinks he can become Emp if the current ruler wrongs him in some way. 321: Count is here to judge FR as B¡¯s successor.
- 3. Feyd¡¯s Plan p. 321-329 322: FR is cheater. Custom to have poison on white blade and not on black blade. He switches poison. Also, he has implanted a power word: Scum. This will cause momentary paralysis. 323: Hawat and FR have been working together. The plan--make it look like slavemaster attempted to kill FR by sending out a slave undrugged (and much more dangerous). B will kill slavemaster, FR will get his man instated. Later, the new slavemaster will aid in assassination of B. FR will take over. What will Hawat gain? 325: FR knows crowd views him as hero. When he takes over as Baron, people will love and fear him from this fight. 326: FR Let them know they can¡¯t trust which hand holds poison. 327: F refuses to take the head off the dead slave--feigns respect--this further endears him to the masses. 328: B is forced to throw a FETE in FR¡¯s honor. He¡¯s angry tho!! 329: Fenrings see through all this--know Hawat¡¯s involved--will there soon be a new baron? 329: Lady plans to seduce FR and collect his seed. Also, plant Pranu Bindu to have some mind control. Questions if P is dead.
- 4. Road of Trials: Sietch Tabr: p. 330-338 331: At Sietch Tabr, Fremen prepare to move. Working on plastics made from spice--for dew collectors. News of LK¡¯s death, Chani¡¯s father. 332: P meets Jamis¡¯s wife, Harah, who calls him the Lisan al-Gaib. He accepts her as servant, tho she¡¯s angry. He¡¯s also responsible for her sons, only a few years his younger. 335: Work on Dew Collectors. Expect Sard to hunt them, to find Sietch Tabr. Shows nomadic qualities of tribe. 336: P sees that the more Fremen he becomes, the more likely the jihad will occur. 337: P sees connection with Chani: both lost fathers. Also, neither is 100% Fremen. 338: P meets the boys--already young warriors. They will guard him.

Jessica¡¯s Initiation: p. 339-345 339: Preparations for ceremony; Stilgar asks J if she wants P to ¡°share in your decision.¡± Suggests danger. 340: P wonders if there¡¯s any way to stop jihad. 341: Learn that Fremen have descended from Sunni and have always been on the run--like the Palestinians and Jews. 341: Will leave this night for the S. Desert--need a new Rev. Mother. J will undergo test/rite. Chani will guide. 343: J drinks the water of life--infused with spice drug. 344: ¡°BG training included the taste of many drugs.¡± 344: Suspended time. 345: Sees the place where only a KH may look. 345: Sees drug on molecular level. Poison. She changes the molecular make-up of the poison with her mind. Chani takes a catalyst from J to change poison in sack--why?
- 6. Jessica¡¯s Transformation: p. 346-352 345: Old Rev. Mother merges with J 346: Should have told us you¡¯re pregnant! Will change baby! J has to shut off fear, use radiance of love to save fetus. Good thing she¡¯s a girl; boy would have died. 346: Old Rev. Mother downloads all memories into J¡¯s mind. 347: ORM: ¡°I¡¯ve been a long time waiting for you. Here is my life.¡± Even the moment of death! J is now a reverend mother, fulfilling the prophecy. Not exactly the same as in BG school, but results are the same. 348: The poison has been transformed into a drug--now the people will share the experience. Orgy. 348: Sees past as thread from one RM to the next--old culture. 349: Sees how they make Water of Life--by drowning a worm!!! (like tequila!) 349: P asks if it¡¯s ok to drink--show¡¯s J the limits of his prescience. 350: P drinks the drug with Chani--she says they are alike--both lost father to Harkonnens. 351: Chani has some prescience, too. Sees herself as mother to P¡¯s kids. P: ¡°You cannot back into the future.¡± 351: P sees Imperium, FR, Saraukar, Guild, BG; thunderhead Fremen & MD 352: Chani sees with P, but differently: ¡°I see us giving love to each other in a time of quiet between storms. It¡¯s what we were meant to do.¡± 352: P: ¡°You¡¯re the strong one. Stay with me.¡± Chani: ¡°Always.¡±
