Symposium 7: Advanced Topics in Offshore Wind Turbine Research
Chair: Franco Bontempi, University of Rome La Sapienza
franco.bontempi@uniroma1.it
Objective of the Symposium
Today, there is a world strong attention to energy resources and global sustainability: Offshore Wind
Turbines (OWT) play a special role and have reached a main consensus about effectiveness. The
Symposium concerns all the aspects related with these complex challenging structural systems,
covering both design concepts and analysis methods, with special attention to interaction phenomena
and multidisciplinary problems, and a strong focus on demanding technological characteristics,
experimental activities and real applications.
Specific Topics
- Fundamental Features of Offshore Wind
Turbines and Offshore Wind Farms;
- Soils and Foundations;
- Structural Parts: Blades and Towers;
- Economical Aspects and Efficiency of OWT;
- Environmental Feasibility and Sustainability;
- Innovative Concepts for OWT Structures and
Foundations;
- Conceptual Design of OWT; - Structural Control and Health Monitoring;
- Safety and Reliability;
- Dependability and Robustness of OWT;
- Fatigue and Durability;
- Mechanical Parts: Rotor and Nacelle;
- Design Environment; - Electrical Installations;
- Wind, Aerodynamics and Aeroelasticy;
- Marine Environment and Wave Loadings;
- Experimental Activities and Wind Tunnel
Testing; Real Field Experiences;
- Interaction Phenomena;
- Advanced Structural Analysis;
- Industrial Aspects and Optimizations;
- Realizations and Projects;
- Risk Analysis and Extreme Events: Collisions
and Exceptional Environmental Actions;
- Codes and Standards;
- Design Activities and Certifications.
