Lux, Lumens and Watts is a presentation about lighting specifications and measurements. This presentation reports from interviews carried out with lighting-engineers at several North-East local authorities, as well as representatives of local PFI lighting organisations and Thorn Lighting. In particular he explores how lighting-engineers seek to use trials and experiments to develop their knowledge and understanding about the capacities of different lighting-technologies and practices, while at the same time dealing with (acknowledged) gaps in understanding about areas in which street-lighting impacts eg fear of crime, night-time economy. He argues that in light of the new controversies and politicization that has been created about changing lighting-technologies, lighting professionals would benefit from developing new ways of exploring and assessing the broader impact of street-lighting.

A session on lighting and planning, delivered by two planning policy officers from nationally protected landscapes. Paul Fellows is Head of Strategic Planning at North York Moors National Park Authority, which along with the Yorkshire Dales National Park was granted International Dark Skies status in December 2020. Natalie Beal is a policy planner at the Broads Authority. Both are Members of the Royal Town Planning Institute. Natalie and Paul will deliver an hour long session that will be in three parts. Firstly, an introduction to how the planning system works. They will then focus on how lighting can be influenced through the planning system. Finally, they will give a planners view on the 10 policy proposals from the Dark Skies APPG.

A session on lighting and planning, delivered by two planning policy officers from nationally protected landscapes. Paul Fellows is Head of Strategic Planning at North York Moors National Park Authority, which along with the Yorkshire Dales National Park was granted International Dark Skies status in December 2020. Natalie Beal is a policy planner at the Broads Authority. Both are Members of the Royal Town Planning Institute. Natalie and Paul will deliver an hour long session that will be in three parts. Firstly, an introduction to how the planning system works. They will then focus on how lighting can be influenced through the planning system. Finally, they will give a planners view on the 10 policy proposals from the Dark Skies APPG.

Scotland has a strong focus on accelerating the provision of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Data shows that outside of London, Scotland is way ahead of the rest of the UK in the provision of public charge points. So, what can be learnt from Westminsters EV charging rollout? The process has been managed by a specific team, with technical input from the councils street lighting team. This CPD presentation will give the street lighting teams view of the in-column EV charging rollout in the council. Covering the expectations versus reality under current standards, the issues found following installation, and the ever-changing landscape of what can be allowed on the highway, this session will benefit every street lighting professional with an involvement in EV charging. L炭dica did叩ctica / Play to Connect is a provocation to think outside the box, a methodology to board uncomfortable topics in a respectful and joyful manner and an excuse to discuss unconventional solutions to contemporary challenges, where play is seen as an attitude and game design as a metaphor of creativity by which to imagine, experiment and learn about our surroundings.
Casa Netural residency in Gorizia offered Diego an opportunity to test the ideas that he has been developing over the past years and to enrich them by looking at them from a different and complementary perspective. In other words to put theory into practice.
Along the 4 weeks that he lived in Gorizia he realized how mature and innovative his own understanding of the ludic phenomenon, as most people he connected with, found the value of his research, but what was amazing for him is how much his project was fed back from completely different and complementary perspectives.
Along these days he crafter four game ideas, with different levels of complexity and currently in different stages of development. These are described in the final report.

His research explores the role of games in education: from a multimodal literacy perspective, he explores the creative process of writers, scientists, designers, artists, teachers and reflective players to learn how to critically read the world and creatively write.
