Germany's population is projected to decline significantly by 2060, falling to between 65 and 70 million people and shrinking by up to 15% overall from its 2008 level. This is due to declining birth rates that won't offset increasing deaths each year, resulting in annual population deficits in the thousands. Younger age groups are forecasted to decline the most, dropping over 30% for those aged 20 to under 30 and 30 to under 50.
