- #3: There was free coffee and breakfast pastries! A good start.
- #4: The session board was posted online and updated in real time. The highlighted boxes show the path I took.
- #5: Hosting a session was as easy as walking up to the board and throwing a sticky note in an empty slot.
- #6: This session provoked oohs and ahhs. I was even impressed at how much this free app could do and how easy it is to use. In class we focused more on Microsoft software so I am glad I got to see the ins and outs of more google software. Picture linked to website.
- #7: This session was run by a graduate student conducting research on why millennials are leaving the education field in their first few years as a teacher. This session was more of a discussion and there was a huge range of audience. There were first year millennial teachers, tenured teachers, college students, a superintendent and more.
- #8: I learned that there are no old teachers, only seasoned.
- #9: The crux of the conversation was basically the tenured teachers telling the new and upcoming teachers not to be scared to deviate from the norm and that they want to embrace new teachers providing positive change, contrary to preconceived notion. Get involved and collaborate. A second year teacher shared that he learned more in his full year of student teaching than he did in all of college when it came to being prepared for his debut.
- #10: A Pineapple Chart is a system that allows teachers to invite one another into their classrooms for informal observation. The chart is set up in some location where teachers go on a daily basis: the teachers lounge, the copy room, or wherever teacher mailboxes live in your school. On the chart, teachers advertise the interesting things they are doing in their classrooms, activities they think others might want to observe. The activities could be as complex as a science lab, a history simulation, or a Skype session with a school in another country. Or they could be as simple as a read-aloud or a lesson on badminton. - #11: This session was more of an inspirational lecture. The image is cropped from a picture I took during the session.
- #12: The final message I got from this session was teaching can be fun if you just try and if you dont like the environment your in, change it! Be the change you want to see.
- #13: The technology of today will create the technology of tomorrow.
- #14: There is free online software. The hardware is moderately priced but seems to be well worth it. Apparently there is a decent support in funding.
- #15: The presenter supported the notion of letting students create instead of always following. This was a significant breakthrough for me.
- #16: This session was the most interactive session as I got to try the oculus go headset. I was Virtually in Anne Franks house. Sitting down is highly recommended.
