Issac Newton discover that white light could be disassembled into a band of coloured light and he named this the spectrum (think Pink Floyds Dark side of the moon). There is nothing in the spectrum to suggest that it can be naturally divided into discrete colours and so the distinction between colours is entirely based on the observer's physiology. You could say, colour is in the eye of the beholder.
If colour is subjective, how can computers understand it?
In this talk I will discuss the ways in which colour can be
represented digitally and the problems this can cause with assigning names to colours. Ill end the talk by showing some applications of colour detection at Lyst using fashion images.
