building was ruled unfit and

Many parents pleaded with
CPS and the alderman for this
area to save the building, but
it was too late.

La Casita was demolished on
August 18, 2013 in order to see
the safety of the students
coming into the new school
year.
12. Reaction from parents and
teachers
According to NBC 5 Chicago,
about 10 people were arrested
during the protest the parents
were having.
Many of them, including
teachers, were linked arm to
arm to show that they were
not backing down.
13. La Casita Now
La Casita has not been rebuilt
for Whittier School.
CPS said that they are going
to use that space to build
basketball courts, a turf field,
and a play ground.
On December 6, 2013 the 10
people that were arrested
were found not guilty during
the protest.
