Emergency numbers in Austria constitutional structure
Austria consists of 9 federal states
competence is divided into federal and state (province) levels
different emergency numbers with different responsibilities:
either responsible for the entire federal territory
or responsible for each federal state
special challenges due to heterogenous emergency numbers

Emergency numbers in Austria
The federal states (governors) are responsible of the following national emergency numbers:
122 fire brigade
128 gas failure
140 mountain rescue
141 medical service
144 rescue service
The federal states (archdiocese) are responsible of the emergency number:
142 telephone counseling
The Austrian radio (ORF) is responsible of emergency number:
147 emergency call for children and young people

individual PSAP in each state (rescue control
centers, fire control centers, integrated control
centers with rescue and fire brigade, etc.)

The Federal Minister of the Interior is responsible of the following emergency numbers:
112 European emergency number
133 Police

network independent access to emergency services
ETSI TS 103 698 Emergency Communications (EMTEL); Lightweight Messaging
Protocol for Emergency Service Accessibility (LMPE)
Order of the minister to develop NG112 and start
with the implementation of DEC112
anchorage of the core services in national law
(new telecommunication act will come into effect)

Support of DEC112 was already considered in an early phase of the ELKOS project
implementation
DEC112 is in operation since 14.12.2020 for the entire national territory for 133
(Police) and 112 (European emergency number)
currently one receiving point (PSAP Vienna)
