The document outlines the post-ejection policy review for intramural sports at Northeastern University. It emphasizes core values of safety and sportsmanship. Players are expected to adhere to rules and policies promoting sportsmanship. Unsporting behavior or actions that are dangerous are grounds for suspension. The intramural sports program defines sportsmanship and has an ejection policy for violations, along with a sportsmanship recognition award. Participation is valued over competition, and poor sportsmanship can negatively impact teams. Completing a short quiz is required for reinstatement eligibility.
2. Core Values:
Safety and
Sportsmanship
• The goal of the Campus Recreation
Program is to offer structured and
rewarding recreational opportunities
to all Northeastern University
Students.
• The activities we provide are
designed to be safe and fun for every
level of participant.
3. What You
Should
Know
• Sportsmanship and good behavior are
required from all our intramural players.
• The rules and policies we have established
were created to promote sportsmanship and
safety in all our leagues.
• We expect all players to adhere to these
rules and policies for the benefit of everyone
involved.
4. Examples of Unsporting Behavior
Actions that are dangerous and/or conduct that
is detrimental to the Intramural Program will not
be tolerated and are grounds for suspension
from further participation in all Intramural
Sports.
5. Ejection
Policy
The entire Intramural Sports Code of
Conduct can be found in the
Intramural Managers Handbook.
This Code covers and prohibits acts
of violence and abuse (physical or
verbal) towards all intramural players
and intramural staff members.
6. Ejection
Policy
In order to promote good
sportsmanship the Intramural
Program has established the
"Sportsmanship Recognition Award."
Whenever a member of the
Intramural Sports Staff witnesses a
display of good sportsmanship they
may award a certificate redeemable
for a free t-shirt.
7. Your
Participation in
NU IM Sports
• Please note that poor sportsmanship
not only negatively effects the ejected
individual but the entire team as well.
• For example, intramural teams that
accumulate 3 UCs in one game will
forfeit the game regardless of the
score.
• Sportsmanship is also the first tie-
breaker for playoff consideration.
8. Your
Participation in
NU IM Sports
The Northeastern University Intramural
Sports Program defines Sportsmanship as:
"Displaying the virtues of self-control,
courage, grace in losing and especially
fairness during participation in a sport.
Further, conducting oneself with respect
towards the game, its players and the
officials."
9. Your
Participation in
NU IM Sports
• This intramural sports program values
participation over competition.
• We want participants of all levels of
play to enjoy the recreational sports we
offer and realize that "winning at all costs"
has no place in this program.
10. Your Participation in NU IM Sports
Thank you for taking the time to
review these policies.
We expect that you will return to our
program without further issue.
We look forward to seeing you on our rinks, courts and
fields in the coming days.
