This document defines and compares solids, liquids, and gases. Solids have a definite shape and volume, while liquids have a definite volume but take the shape of their container. Gases have no definite shape or volume. It also describes physical and chemical changes, where physical changes alter the state or shape of a substance without changing its composition, and chemical changes form new substances. Mixtures are defined as containing two or more substances, and can be either heterogeneous, where the substances are visibly distinct, or homogeneous, where they are not.
2. SOLIDS
THEY HAVE A DEFINITE SHAPE AND A DEFINITE
VOLUME BECAUSE THEY TAKE UP THE SAME
SPACE.
3. LIQUIDS
LIQUIDS DON`T HAVE A DEFINITE SHAPE
BECAUSE THEY ADAPT TO THE CONTAINER
THERE ARE IN, BUT THEY HAVE A DEFINITE
VOLUME BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS TAKE UP THE
SAME SPACE.
4. GASES
GASES don`thave a definite shape because
they adapt to the shape of the container
they are in and they don`t have a definite
volume because they spand to fill the
container they are in.
5. CHANGES IN MATTER
PHYSICAL CHANGES CAN HAPPEN WHEN
MATTER CHANGE STATE AND SHAPE ,BUT THE
SUBTANCE DOESN`T CHANGE. PHYSICAL
CHANGES CAN HAPPEN WHEN WE HEAT,
FREEZE,BEND,TWIST,STRETCH OR SQUASH A
SUBSTANCE.
6. CHEMICAL CHANGES
A CHEMICAL CHANGE IS WHEN A NEW
SUBSTANCE IS PRODUCED.
CHEMICAL CHANGES CAN HAPPEN WHEN WE
BURN A SUBTANCE OR EXPOSE A SUBTANCE TO
AIR.
7. MIXTURES
A MIXTURE IS SOMETHING THAT CONTAINS TWO
OR MORE SUBTANCES.AIR IS A MIXTURE OF
GASES.SALTWATER IN THE SEA IS A MIXTURE OF
WATER,SALT AND OTHER MINERALS.MANY
ROCKS ARE A MIXTURE OF DIFFERENT
MINERALS.
8. HETEROGENOUS
IN A HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURE IT IS EASY TO
SEE THE DIFERENTS SUBSTANCES.
9. HOMOGENEOUS
IN A HOMOGENEOUS MIXTURE IT IS DIFFICULT
TO SEE THE DIFERENT SUBTANCES.
