Queen Elizabeth I wrote this poem at age 57 reflecting on rejecting suitors in her youth due to pride. The poem is written in iambic hexameter with a repeating refrain of "Go, go, go, seek some other where, importune me no more." She scorned many suitors who pined for her love. When Cupid spoke to humble her pride, she could not sleep and regretted sending suitors away. The poem shows Elizabeth's character and regret apart from her status as queen.

When I was fair and

Go, go, go, seek some
other where, importune
me no more.

rejected all the suitors when she was
young.
Scorn:she scorns all the suitors as she
thinks that she is above them all
because of her glory(she forget that
glory cant be an alternative for love).

like nagging.
Using the refrain(lines which are
repeated regularly) 4 times.

made to pine in woe,
How many sighing hearts I
have not skill to show,
But I the prouder grew and
still this spake therefore:
Go, go, go, seek some
other where, importune me no
more.
6. Pine: The person loses his
strength and becomes very
weak with pain and grief .She
tells about the suitors who

her love.
When she receives more

more prouder she becomes).
7. Then spake fair Venus' son, that
brave victorious boy,
Saying: You dainty dame, for that
you be so coy,
I will so pluck your plumes as you
shall say no more:
Go, go, go, seek some other
where, importune me no more.
8. Venuss son:Cupid(God of
desire and errotic love).
I will pluck your
plumes:remove your pride;its a
reference to the brightly colored
plumes of the peacock which is
a traditional symbol of
pride.Plumes means large
feathers and its also a symbol

Here is the turning point
,when she finds someone who
could wake her up from being
so proud.
9. When he had spake these words,
such charge grew in my breast
That neither night nor day since
that, I could take any rest.
Then lo, I did repent that I had
said before,
'Go, go, seek some
otherwhere
Importune me no more.'
10. Because of Cupids words
,she couldnt sleep as he
wakes her up from being so
proud of herself and her glory
in life .He makes her think of
her right to love and to be
love that she has fogetten
because of her pride.
Cupid makes her regret her
previous decisions and he
could kill her pride.
