ELTOP – Electronics Township conceptualized in 1976?77 .


Coincided with the Growth phase of Electronics Industry in the country. Electronics
City of Bangalore – Silicon Valley of India also conceived at the same time.


Development Phase :‐ (1977‐87) when major electronics giants both public sector
and private sector were set up like Telephone Cables, SCL ltd., JCT, Fujitsu/
Orientcraft etc.


Electronics and IT Boom in the country whereas ELTOP stagnated over a period of
time.


Punjab Government – IT Policy 2009 acknowledges the need to upgrade the
infrastructure in ELTOP thereby allowing development of World Class IT
campuses / complexes to fulfill the requirements of IT/ Knowledge industry
