I fear not getting a job before graduating. Its stressful. My generation [GEN Y] wants to experience a lot of things. We dont want to be tied down. Lets see what opportunities come up. I am working towards management consulting because its project-based. That means there are always new things to do. Some of my friends worked really hard to get into their chosen industries, but discovered they dont enjoy their work. Eventually, I want to open a beach bar in Bali! While demonstrating the universitys internship application platform: pointed out the management consulting opportunities and stressed that places are not only limited but highly competitive. You also have to commit for several months, essentially sacrificing your entire summer. Has not had the chance to take up such a programme. - Believes it is important to be working towards a specific goal at this point. - A professional job is a necessary stepping stone to eventually having the financial resources to pursue ones own passions. - Disadvantaged for not having had the opportunity to take up an internship in the chosen field. - Excited about the future, but apprehensive at the same time. - Still uncertain about the right path to take. - Worried about ending up in a job that is not a right fit. Radical departure from previous understandings of work? - Stark contrast between work (financially rewarding) and passions (finances as a pre-requisite). Is this juxtaposition a result of cultural and social frameworks? [Interview based on a Singaporean perspective.]
