This document discusses the importance of considering coworkers as part of a "work-family" in order to promote safety and productivity. It notes that successful businesses treat their employees well so they remain loyal assets to the company. While employees have expectations of their employers, fostering a caring atmosphere allows people to still be creative and productive, even during disappointments. One of the most costly incidents is a work injury, as it affects morale and productivity for other workers who must cover additional duties while worrying for their injured coworker. An injury can be an opportunity for the work-family to show care and support through assistance.

The most valuable assets of every organization are people who work to make that
organization successful. Prosperity for any company depends on the contribution
of each employee, however minor those efforts might be. Every employer and
every employee spend as much time together as they do with members of their own
families and the success or failure of these relationships depends on the behavior
of one another. Clearly, every employee is an important and valuable aspect to the
ultimate success of any organization. To consider the work place home and the
employees or co-workers as our work-family members could promote a healthier,
safer, and more positive atmosphere in the workplace, increasing productivity while
safeguarding against burnout, unnecessary loss of employees, stress claims, and
adversary feelings.
A very successful business man who had created an extremely good and generous
environment for his employees said, At six oclock every day, 90% of my companys
assets walk out of that door, pointing toward the front door of his company, I
want them to come back, here, every day. His company was very successful, even
during the economical downturn.
Since we are talking about the Work-Family, keep in mind, that children expect
their parents to provide for them, keep them safe, and make every one of their
wishes come true. Employees expect much from their employers, some of their
expectations are clearly unrealistic, however, if a caring and trusting atmosphere
is promoted, anyone can deal with unusual disappointment, continue to grow, be
creative, and productive.
One of the most costly incidents for an employer, from a financial and human
resource aspect is a work injury. When a family member is sick or injured, their
state of health affects everyone around them. This is also true for a work-family
member, causing others to worry and pick-up their work while thinking about their

at times.
If an injury is a tragedy, in one way, it is also an opportunity for the family, or
work-family, to show their care and concern by assisting or offering to do what
must be done to help.
