Can Endowment Proceeds be used for the Benefit of the Public?
- 1. With Regards to the Question Submitted by the Respected Abi Bakr Muhie Aldeen Relevant to Disbursing the Endowment Proceeds All Praise belongs to Allah alone. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our noble Prophet Muhammad Peace be Upon Him, his family and companions. The Islamic Fiqh Council at Muslim World League in its tenth session held in Holy Makkah between Saturday 24/2/1408 AH correspondent to 17/10/1987, has looked into the question submitted by the Respected Abi Bakr Muhie Aldeen, the President of Muslim Missionary Society Singapore, regarding disbursing the endowment proceeds in general public benefits. And after deliberation on the subject the council decided the following: If the endowment’s proceeds were not conditional for the benefit of a certain party, then there is no objection to disburse its proceeds to public benefits. But if it was conditional for the benefit of a certain party, then the council decides: Impermissibility of its disbursement to general public benefits.
