Find the importance of context of an academic text. II. SUBJECT MATTER A. TOPIC: Reading Academic Texts B. MATERIALS: Hand-outs, Chalkboard, Laptop C. REFERENCES: From the Autopsy Surgeons Report, LM for SHS English for Academic and Professional Purposes III. PROCEDURE A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES 1. Prayer 2. Greeting 3. Checking of attendance 4. Setting of Classroom Rules 5. Review B. LESSON PROPER B.1 Motivation The teacher will give prescription of aspirin to the learners and they will interpret the information found in it and will answer the following questions: 1. Did you found useful information in the prescription? 2. Who do you think is the intended reader of this write up about aspirin? 3. What have you observed about the information you found in the prescription? 4. What is the significance of this information to our lesson today? The teacher will teach the learners on how to access information by looking at how ideas are arranged in the text. Then, the teacher will explain that there are certain registers of language peculiar to specific profession such as medical science, engineering and business. These languages are referred to as jargon. In the case of aspirin, its common use as a drug as to relieve pain and reduce fever has gained popular knowledge. The teacher will grasp the coding system of the prescription given to the class.
- 2. B.2 Activity The learners will read the autopsy surgeons report. They will answer the following: 1. How the report is structured? 2. What have you learned from each sentence in this report? B.3 Analysis 1. What is jargon? 2. What are examples of jargons use in medical science, engineering and business? 3. What is the importance of identifying context in the selection? B.4 Abstraction Define jargon. Give examples of jargon use in medical science, engineering and business. What is the importance of identifying contexts in the selection. B.5 Application The learners will make a simple grid on the selection they have read. They will identify how many sentence are there in the selection and write down what is the corresponding topic of each sentences. B.6 Evaluation (Formative Test) Instruction: (Essay) In a 1/2 sheet of paper. Guide questions: 1. What is jargon? (2 pts.) 2. What are the jargon used in medical science, engineering and business. Give three (3) examples each. (9 pts.) 3. Why it is important to identify the context of the selection. (3 pts.) V. ASSIGNMENT Let the learners do a research and read about the Language use in our constitution. VI. REFLECTION
