B. MATERIALS: Hand-outs, Chalkboard, Laptop

Academic and Professional Purposes

B.1 Motivation
Guide questions:
Had you read comic books?
What are your favourite comic books and characters?
Is it interesting to read comic books?
B.2 Activity
The learners will read the text The Golden Age of Comics.
After the students read the text, they will identify the thesis sentence of
the selection. The thesis sentence states the central idea of the
selection. This thesis statement may be expressed or implied.
The learners will also prepare an outline of the selection. The teacher
will show them how the ideas are arranged in the selection.

They will identify the thesis statement of this academic text and will
make an outline. They will also state if it is implied or expressed.

1. What is thesis statement? 2 pts
2. What are the two types of thesis statement? Give the meaning. 4 pts.
3. Is an outline important in making an essay? Why? 4 pts.
V. ASSIGNMENT
The students will read a local and foreign comic book. After reading
they compare the characters of the comics they have read and will
answer the following question.
1. Who are the characters of the comic books?
2. Which is more appealing between the two comic books?
Compare your answer to your classmates?
