I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
a. Identify reading text in various disciplines
b. Outlines reading text in various disciplines
c. Evaluate reading text in various disciplines.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. TOPIC: Reading Academic Texts
B. MATERIALS: Hand-outs, Chalkboard, Laptop
C. REFERENCES: On Various Kind of Thinking, LM for SHS English for
Academic and Professional Purposes
III. PROCEDURE
A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer
2. Greeting
3. Checking of attendance
4. Setting of Classroom Rules
5. Review
B. LESSON PROPER
B.1 Motivation
The teacher will ask the students if they heard the expression Think
about it or Give me time to think it. The learner will do some reflection
of these expressions. The learner will compare their subjects on what
the reflected on those expressions.
B.2 Activity
The teacher will divide the learners into six (6) groups. They will read the
selection, On Various Kinds of Thinking. After reading the learners will
answer the following questions:
1. Name the various kinds of thinking.
2. How you able to identify these various kinds of thinking?
3. Are there any markers in the essay that serves as clues or indicators?
4. Make an outline of the selection with the help of the structural
markers.
B.3 Analysis
1. What is the central idea?
2. How did you determine the central idea of the selection?
3. Where can you find the central idea of the selection?
4. Does making an outline helpful in determining the central idea of the
selection?
B.4 Abstraction
Define the central idea.
How to determine the central idea of the selection?
Is the central idea can be found anywhere in the selection?
How important is an outline in determining the central idea?
B.5 Application
The learners will engaged on various kinds of thinking such as reverie,
decision-making, rationalizing and creative fact.
1. Which type of thinking do you most frequently engage in?
2. What benefits do we get from the different types of thinking?
B.6 Evaluation
(Formative Test)
Instruction: (Essay) In a 1/2 sheet of paper. Guide questions:
1. What is central idea? 2 pts.
2. What are the ways in determining central ideas? 6 pts.
3. Where can you find the central ideas? 6 pts.
4. Is an outline important in determining the central idea of the
selection? Explain 6 pts.
V. ASSIGNMENT
Do a research of James Harvey Robinson.
