I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. Identify what is academic text
b. Determine the structure of a specific academic text
c. Differentiate the structure of a specific academic text
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. TOPIC: Reading Academic Texts
B. MATERIALS: Hand-outs, Chalkboard, Laptop
C. REFERENCES: From Hand to Mouth by Micheal C. Corballis, LM for SHS
English for Academic and Professional Purposes
III. PROCEDURE
A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer
2. Greeting
3. Checking of attendance
4. Setting of Classroom Rules

B. LESSON PROPER
B.1 Motivation
Learners will be grouped into 4. The teacher will read the following
passages and the students will identify if passage is from publication or
a fictional story. The group wholl get the most number of scores will
win.
 NBA finals, season 2018-2019 will be played by Toronto Raptors
and Golden State Warriors this June 2019.
 The warrior saved the princess and they lived happily ever after.
 Cinderella left her shoes in the party and the princess kept
looking for her.
In your own idea, what is publication? fictional story?
Did you find the difference between the publication and the fictional
story?
B.2 Activity
The teacher will ask the students to read the text entitled From Hand to
Mouth by Michael C. Corballis.
Based on their previous groups, the learners will do the Pop-Corn
Reading. (One member of the group will be called to start reading the
text, when the teacher said stop the learner will stop reading and
another member from the other group will be called to continue the
reading exactly where his/her classmate stopped. If the learner cannot
continue immediately he/she will be time for 3 seconds and will deduct
point to their group). This activity needs cooperation and focused.

B.3 ANALYSIS

2. What are structures of academic text?
3. Why is it important to study academic text?
B.4 ABSTRACTION
Give the meaning of the academic text.
Enumerate the structure of the academic text.
Elaborate the importance of the academic text.
B.5 APPLICATION
Again, based on their previous group, the learners will be asked to the
library and find one academic text for 5 minutes. After the given time,
each group will again be given time to analyze and identify the
academic parts for 10 minutes and after that they will present their
answers for 3 minutes.
B.6 EVALUATION
(Formative Test)
Instruction: In a 遜 sheet of paper. Answer the following:
1. What is academic text?
2. Enumerate the structure of the academic text.
3. Identify which paragraphs of the academic From Hand to Mouth is
the introduction? body? conclusion? 2 pts each.
V. ASSIGNMENT
Find one academic text from (internet, books or publications). You print
or cut it and paste it on your notebook.
