The 2009 environmental project focused on increasing the population of the declining Pied Flycatcher bird in the Wrekin and Ercall Woodlands. Volunteers constructed 60 nest boxes from sustainable wood and installed them over three days in March and April. A survey in June found that most boxes were occupied by Pied Flycatchers, Blue Tits, or Great Tits, exceeding expectations. Specifically, 10 pairs of Pied Flycatchers were recorded nesting in the boxes and banded for future monitoring, including 7 pairs with 44 young in the Wrekin woodland and 1 pair with 6 young in the Ercall Woodland.
