The 1905 revolution in Russia was sparked by several factors. Growing public discontent with the autocratic Tsarist regime and its failure to enact political reforms led to widespread unrest. High unemployment, poverty, and unfair treatment also angered the public and workers. A major catalyst was the defeat in the Russo-Japanese War and the sinking of the Russian battleship Potemkin, which weakened the Tsar's prestige and power and caused protests and demonstrations across the country demanding democratic reforms and an end to the monarchy.
