- 3. As The EU celebrates 50 years some are wondering about the power and influence the EU has - also - will have in future.
- 4. From 1950 to 1957 Europe saw their continent change into what has become a multi nation arrangement called European Community - or better known as the European Union The world also changed forever because it did not want to go back to the politics of a world that caused World War Two.
- 5. In order to understand the European Union - to see if our question Is the EU a Superpower in the making?- a correct assumption - we must examine two things: The term Superpower Perception
- 6. The term Superpower was used for the naming of hegemonic superiority of a single nation, during the Cold War period -
- 7. It reflected a way of describing a kind of stranglehold on power
- 8. It described accurately the games the United States of America, Russia and China and the United Kingdom played against each other.

- 28. Transformative power The lonely superpower can bribe, bully, or impose its will almost anywhere in the world, but when its back is turned, its potency wanes. In contrast, the strength of the EU is broad and deep: once sucked into its sphere, countries are changed forever.
- 29. If America represents the freedom of the individual to consume, and Asia the importance of social stability, Europe allows its people the best of both. It combines the energy and freedom of liberalism with the stability and welfare of social democracy. As the world becomes richer and moves beyond satisfying basic needs such as hunger and health, the European way of life will become increasingly attractive. Mark Leonard
