Eutelsat Communications has redeployed its Hot Bird 2 satellite to 9 degrees east and renamed it Eurobird 9. This opens a new video neighborhood adjacent to Eutelsat's premium Hot Bird position at 13 degrees east. Eurobird 9 has 20 Ku-band transponders and will allow reception of channels from both 9 degrees east and 13 degrees east with dual-feed dishes. Eutelsat's first customer for Eurobird 9 capacity is Portuguese cable operator TVTEL, which will use it to launch a new pay-TV platform in Portugal with 20 channels.
