Where we came from… After the big change KPFK was… 200K Debt  Leaking roof – Archives impact  Little to NO Diversity at Station or Programming  No fulltime staff – all temps Major Transmitter – signal problems  Poor infrastructure One Daily News cast
What we’ve done… Improved KPFK infrastructure Rebuilt 3 Broadcast Studios, 2 edit bays and 2 studios for news Built a production studio. Initiated 1 of the most progressive union contracts in the country Rebuilt Web- 3 years ago 70K / Today 4-5million hits p/month in over 53 countries worldwide Creation of audio archiving and pod casting Built 10 community/volunteer work stations w/ computers Purchased 40 computers for staff and studios Increased Programming from 68 to 100+ Increased Spanish Language Programming and returned Black and fired programmers. Developed a daily National Spanish Language News Cast Increased Public Affairs Programming / Weekends also Created stringer budget / Expanded – 3daily News Cast and Hourly Headlines

Short Term Goals   Develop campaign for 50 th  Anniversary Celebration year.  Create outreach and marketing campaign – billboards/bus ads/bench ads and other media – 200k Launch Major Donor Campaign throughout signal area – Meet and Greets/Station Tours/Individual Donor appointments. Reclaim San Diego signal – grassroots marketing campaign.  Finalize Malibu Translator – Oct’ 2007  Expand Voices of Tomorrow training project for high school youth – radio
Long Term Vision  Utilize digital and other new technologies and distribution venues for the expansion and development of a multimedia platform for KPFK Strengthen organizational structure and support through staff development and programmers support.  Strengthen available programming with increased diversity and greater accessibility. Improve programming quality, increase production  Expand local news / Weekend news: Increase Thematic Programming – Global Warming / Human Rights Watch  / Immigration / Healthcare / Elections / Investigative Reporting.
New Generation Of Programming  50 years Later what have we learned Passing of the baton. Honor the past and trust in the future. Secure and Maintain greater accessibility for new generations and local communities. Maintain a balance. The 3 R’s of programming: Radio Activism Radio Advocacy Radio Journalism Introduce new paradigms in radio Increase multilingualism
Pacifica  Contributions to Spanish Language Public Radio New Contributions to the development of new media in the industry. Meeting the demand: The changing demographic  Pacifica playing a strategic role in dissemination of progressive news, information and analysis to audience conservatives have targeted for years. Pacifica must lead the way. We have begun: Informativo Pacifica Changing English only paradigm in media Providing venue for collaboration and organization Contributing to American Political discourse.
Operations - Increased in-kind donations to improve working environment  - Accessibility improvements undertaken - Implemented consistent training for paid and unpaid  staff  - Santa Barbara signal – Translator has been upgraded - Creating efficiencies in station operations - Aztec Roofing system installed - Installed back-up power generators
How do we get there Convert to HD Radio – another 24hr broadcast channel for KPFK  Purchase remote broadcast equipment and van – 40k Create and produce KPFK’s own Pod-safe music library/music production of CD’S and DVD’s for purchase/e-commerce.    Fulfill ADA compliance with a recent accessibility audit of our building and parking lot requiring specific structural improvements to ensure we are accessible to all Launch a new member listener campaign Increase member base and strengthen community relations
