The document discusses how the author gained audience feedback on their media product. [1] They created an audience questionnaire and had peers watch their draft music video to get feedback. [2] Feedback from the questionnaire helped with initial ideas, while filming reactions identified specific moments audiences liked and disliked. [3] The author learned they should have held focus groups, posted their draft online to get more varied feedback, and created the questionnaire earlier to inform ancillary tasks.

2. Q1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
3. Q2 How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
4. What have you learned from your audience
feedback?
We needed to find out what our target audience
liked and disliked not only in music videos but
also in our ideas for our music video.
Its really important to find out what your
audience think because in the end - they are the
ones who are going to be judging it, and its also
really helpful to gain ideas from people outside
of the class who dont have experience of
media.
5. One way we gained audience feedback was by
creating an audience questionnaire to find out
what our target audience liked to see in a music
video.
Another way we gained audience feedback was
to film some of our peers watching our draft
video and then to film them whilst asking what
they did and didnt like about our music video.
Doing these things really helped us decide some
specific decisions and it gave us an overview of
the atmosphere our video should give.
6. Audience questionnaire
So to get an idea of what our audience
liked to see in a music video we created
an audience questionnaire this really
helped when we were coming up with
initial ideas of what to add into our
music video.
We asked questions that we felt could
help us with aspects we were perhaps
stuck on or needed specific ideas for
such as which of these do you look for
and enjoy in a music video? with a
choice of answers they could tick!
To analyze these we put the answers
together and used PowerPoint to add all
our findings into an easily readable
technology
7. Filming reactions
So we chose four random people in our year group to take a look at our
draft version of our music video, we filmed them watching this so we
could look for any specific reactions and then we asked them if there
were any particular moments which they liked or disliked.
These were really helpful for us, even though to begin with we werent
happy with our draft and didnt feel confident in showing any of our
peers yet we are really happy we did as it helped us out a lot in what
we needed to change in our music video and what was working
effectively.
8. Basically what we did with the videos is re watched them and
noted down specific things that our peers said needed to be
changed and what worked well;
What we took from their feedback;
I understood the story well this was an important factor
for us as we had previously been told our story was not
clear.
Wasnt too cheesy you know its meant to be cheesy
again this is something we were worried about and so it
was good to know it came across as meant to be cheesy.
There were a few blank parts when I thought it had
finished we hadnt yet completed filming and still had
about 3 shots to film so this is understandable
The first time Ryan and Will come in Im not sure if its in
sync we looked at this and it seems as we were editing
we accidently moved this shot forward a small amount.
9. Conclusion; what we learned from
audience feedback
Overall we both found the audience feedback really helpful however if we
were to do this project again heres what we would do differently;
- Hold a focus group and ask more in depth questions to our target
audience
- Post our draft music video on a social networking site such as facebook
to get a wider range of views, perhaps of people who dont attend our
school and of a wider age range
- Create an audience questionnaire prior to creating our ancillary tasks
specifically for them as this would have given us more of a starting idea
for our digi packs.
