The document summarizes the process of evaluating a media product created by the author. It discusses who the target audience is (young adults and teenagers interested in rock and hip-hop music), how the product represents that audience (through clothing and music genre choices), and how the product would be distributed (online on social media sites like Facebook that the target audience frequents). It also discusses how the author conducted audience research through online surveys on sites like Facebook and Twitter to evaluate how well the media product addressed and attracted its intended audience.
2. How does my media product represent particular social groups?
What kind of media institution might distribute my media product and why?
I found in my research that soft rock and hip-hop artists tend to wear casual/dark clothing
and as you can see the members of my band have all been giving dark hair and the one on
the front having a casual jumper which is however very dark. I made one of the band
members wear a t-shirt saying ‘team carnage’ to show that he is serious about working
hard and creating good music with his band and show what he represents.
I feel that my magazine would be suitable to be published on an online site such as social
networks like facebook as my targeted audience is young and most youngsters access
social networks such as facebook on a daily basis so my magazine would easily be able to
reach them. You can see I have included facebook, twitter and youtube pages in which the
magazine would be featured on. These sites also include many forms of advertisement in
which my magazine could easily be placed upon, I could also use this to give a link to an
available online version of my magazine. Because I based my magazine mainly around a
mixture of kerrang and NME I felt that it would be best if the publisher of these could also
publish my magazine.
3. I feel that my magazine is made for the younger generation of adults and teenagers as you
can quite clearly see that the band that interviewed are fairly young and all the pictures I
took were of younger people. I feel that the younger generation would want to read about
other young groups. The Genres of rock/hip-hop that I made my magazine based around is
considered popular to teens all over the world so I feel that the genre also fits in with the
selected age that I am targeting. I have also made my magazine based around the male
population as you can see by the colours being mainly blue (a colour considered a favourite
by males).
Who will be the audience for my media product?
What have I learnt from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt both the basics and advanced usage of the latest edition of photoshop,
creating both practice and final products as you can see in my skills development.
4. How did I attract/address my audience?
You can see here that I individually asked people through messages to answer my survey, I
sent these messages through Facebook but I also shared the link to my survey on twitter to
reach a larger audience, you can also see that I was able to send the picture of my magazine
so the audience I was asking to do my survey was clearly able to see what they were
answering the survey about. I did my survey using surveymonkey.com as it was both free,
online and easy so I could quickly send the surveys out by coping and sending them out very
simply.
I did this
same thing
with many
different
surveys to
get many
different
results.
