MY PRODUCT AND THE REPRESENTATION
OF MEN WITH IN THE FAMILY
The over all narrative of my product, is this idea of a male figure who whittles his way into
unsuspecting families, through manipulating the mother. He portrays himself as the ideal
family man in order to take over their lives and eventually have rid of them.
This is a reflection of a typical feminist view point, in the sense of where the male is the
dominant figure, and takes advantage of women; which in the real world is not always the
case, the majority of the time.
Specifically, in my moving image, I have brought out the dark side of the male, by
representing them as being manipulative, users, violent and dangerous.
This is contrasted by my representation of the innocence of the young. This is established through the
use of the school uniform, which could also connote the control over the boy, from his father, in the
same way as the school ultimately has control over him.
The animosity of the subject fits well with the thriller genre, however as it is such a sensitive subject,
the abuse and control of a man, the audience may become more individual. However, if I was going
on to make a full feature film, I would aim to create more mystery and action to it.
This could be done by making it the young boys life goal to avenge his family and bring him to
justice. After disequilibrium, the resolution comes when he fights for his life and demonstrates
power and strength, subverting the audiences expectations of a stereotypical young boy.
This would have the same effect as the female representation with in horror and thriller films. In the
same way as the innocent, kind hearted, pretty little woman was portrayed in Eden Lake, after a
series of terrible events concerning the death of her loved one, she then becomes the final girl. She
becomes the strong willed femme fatal who seeks revenge. Nothing, or no one will get in her way.
