BBFC Rating/Audience
 The BBFC is a individual company which classify films and have done since
1912 based on their guidelines which are regularly changed to fit suitably
and current views on not only films but also video games.
 BBFC have seven different classifications of film including, U (suitable for
everyone), 12A (suitable for everyone 12+ in cinemas) and 15 & 18 which
are also based of the same concept.
 The BBFC rating advises people to make the right viewing decisions and is
done for the protection of children especially from unsuitable content for
their age.

12A Classification
 Our film opening would get a BBFC rating of 12A as although only a brief
opening has been shown, if the film would be a full production the
narrative would suggest that it is a 12A due to violence being used and
strong language would also be used in places especially. Also the film
narrative suggests that there is stealing involved and if the rest of the film
would follow conventions of the genre then a 12A rating in cinemas would
be suitable.

Age Rating Issues For 12A:
 • Theme - Mature themes are acceptable, but their treatment must be suitable for young teenagers.
 • Language - The use of strong language (e.g. 'f***') must be infrequent. Racist language used as
abuse is also a concern.
 • Nudity - Nudity is allowed, but it must be brief and discreet if there is any suggestion of sex.
 • Sex - Sex can be suggested. Sex references may reflect what 12 year olds are likely to have heard
about from school, but there should be nothing unsuitable for young teenagers. Frequent rude sex
references may not be allowed.
 • Violence - Violence must not dwell on injuries or blood. Sexual violence may only be implied or
briefly and discreetly indicated.
 • Imitable techniques - Dangerous techniques (e.g. combat, hanging, suicide and self-harming)
should not dwell on things which can be copied or appear pain or harm free. Easily accessible weapons
should not be shown as glamorous.
 • Horror - There can be some threat and menace, including scary scenes which are intense or last a
while. Only occasional gory moments can be shown.
 • Drugs - Any misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be shown as glamorous, or
attractive, or teach viewers how to take drugs.
 • Discrimination - The film or DVD as a whole must not approve of language or behaviour that
would offend a person’s religion, colour, gender, sexuality or disability. Aggressive use of this type of
language and behaviour is unacceptable unless it is clearly disapproved of.

Target Audience
 Due to our film opening having a classification of 12A, our main target
audience will be male teenagers with an interest in action-thrillers. As the
genre develops a lot of suspense and tension we found that the majority
of viewers are male.
 However, we would still like our film to appeal to the female audience
therefore, our secondary target audience would be female teenagers and
males between the age of 20-30. We think our film successfully appealed
to these target audiences therefore, would get a wide variety of people
viewing the film production.
