The monk seal is an extinct species of seal that lived in groups in the Mediterranean Sea. Males measured 308 cm and weighed around 340 kg. They became endangered in 1967 and disappeared due to sea contamination, human activity, and overfishing which put pressure on their habitat and food sources.
