Dóing - The Augmented Shop

We’vesucceeded.
CHALLENGE
Sooneday,oneofthebiggestScienceCentresinEurope
thoughtwecouldhelpthemenvisioninga524m2
exhibition.They’vedefiedustothinkanddesignan
unconventionalmakerspacethatwouldbringparents,
kidsandgeeksintothesamelevelofexperience.
Afterafewmonthstinkering,weendedupwith
Dóing - The Augmented Shop.
This is a shop,notakindergarden.
Sincethebeginningthiswasourmotto.
TogetherwiththeScienceCentreteam,we designed
aspacethatmakestheparticipantsfeelcuriousabout
thesurrounding activities.
Thereisnoconstrains,visitorsarefreetoexplorethe
differentactivitiesthewaytheywant.Theycan learn
fromtheirmistakesandhavefunwhiledoingit.
Thereisnoroomfor“Ican’tdoit”!

fellowsmakinguscompany!Theytaught
ushowtofoldpaperplanesandbuilding
circuitboards.
Concept
TheAugmentedShop.
Assimpleasthis.Wetookacosy,noisyand
smallshopandmakeithugeenoughsoit
cantakehundredsofcuriousvisitorata
time.
Visualization

Wefilledourwallswithsketches,
pictures,post-itsandmockups.
Prototyping
It'snotonlyhowitlooksbuthowitfeels.
Weprototypeinrealscaletounderstand
theusabilityandtheexperienceofthe
exhibits.Ifit'snotfunwegobackandtry
itagain.
Scenarios
Who’sgoingwhere,who’sgonnadowhat?Isit
agroup,isitafamily? Wesolvedthisby
simulatingdifferenttypesofsituations,paths,
andspacessuitableforalotofdifferent
activities.
Architecture
Wewenttechnical.Inside Dóing’sexhibit
thereisarealshopwithmorethan100m2
and
a 3metershighmetalstructureasan"airport"
forpaperplanes.Thiswasajobforgrown-ups!
Production
Werolledupoursleeves,itwastime
toworkhard!Wesupervisedandjoinedthe
productionofalltheelementsandmaterial
thatwerepartofDóing.Wasn'ttheconcepta
TinkeringSpace?Saidanddone.
