The expert group discussed several renewable energy projects in Pakistan. For wind energy, the group discussed 3 projects totaling 200 MW that China had listed, rather than the single 250 MW project Pakistan listed. Pakistan confirmed it would add a 50 MW project and that land acquisition would no longer block the 100 MW UEP project. For hydel power, China pushed for the Karot project and stressed using water resources. For solar power, China agreed only to help with 100 MW of the Quaid-e-azam Solar Park and raised concerns over grid stability and uncertain tariff costs.

1. EXPERT WORKING GROUP ON RENEWABLE ENERGY
The salient points of the projects discussed by the expert group on the renewal energy are as
follows:
WIND:
The Chinese side pointed out that:
The Pakistani side has mentioned only one project in the priority list of 250mw.
According to them they had listed three main projects, namely the one being undertaken by
UEP, (100mw), Sacher (50 mw) and Dawood (50 mw). The total mw therefore is 200 and not
250.
The Pakistani side conferred that:
The government of Pakistan will soon introduce another project of 50 mw.
After the Supreme Courts latest ruling the issue of land acquisition for the UEP Project will
not be an issue. The Chinese side needs to speed up the loan process through NDRC.
For the Dawood project they are waiting for the government approvals for signing of the
agreements and initiating the financing negotiations.
HYDEL:
The Chinese pushed for the Karot project.
Chinese insisted that Pakistan needs to employ its water resources for generation of energy
since it was economical and environmentally friendly technology.
SOLAR
The Chinese side put forward the following reservations regarding the Quaid-e-azam Solar Park:
The Chinese were only agreeable to 100 mw production
Whether the energy produced can be linked to a stable grid
Cost of the tariff is uncertain
