This document discusses two projects exploring new musical interfaces using iPad and gesture-based technologies. The first examines an ensemble that incorporates iPad-based instruments into free improvisation percussion performances. The apps emphasize rhythmic playing and structuring improvisations. The second project, called the BoomRoom, allows direct manipulation of virtual sound sources in mid-air using wave field synthesis and optical tracking for a new interactive musical experience.
