This course is designed to help you improve your
speaking fluency and listening comprehension in social
and academic settings. It will help you understand
American culture and prepare for American university
classes. You will also share your own culture and values
in English with your classmates.

Read simple passages & express your opinions
Learn necessary vocabulary words in order to express your opinions

Apply basic grammar rules in speaking
Form statements and questions correctly

In class, you will often work in groups with your peers. You are expected to
participate fully in class, small group and paired activities because these
commutation and team work skills will be very helpful for your future study
and career.

Course Requirements and Expectations:
Academic Honesty: It is helpful to study outside class with other
students and share ideas. However, it is wrong to copy homework,
help or cheat on a quiz or a test, or talk during a quiz or test for any
reason. Also, it is plagiarism to copy materials someone else wrote
as your own. Plagiarized work will be not accepted.
English Only! The SAL classroom building is an English only
zone. Please speak English only in your class. It is the most effective
way to improve your English.
Please turn off your cell phone.
Do not miss class. If you miss class, it is your responsibility to find
out what the homework is from your classmates.

Participation 25 %
- For full points for participation, you need to arrive to class on time with the homework
assignment completed. You should be ready for the lesson and participate actively in all
classroom activities. Ask questions and contribute to group work in ENGLISH.
