Over a 12-year period, Dr. Christos Michaelides recorded statistics on facial trauma cases at Polyclinic YGIA in Limassol, Cyprus. The mandible was the most frequently fractured site, making up 38% of fractures. Falls were the leading cause of injury, responsible for 48.45% of cases at Polyclinic YGIA and 47.75% of cases at Nicosia General Hospital. The second most common cause was assaults, accounting for 19.08% and 14.28% of injuries respectively.
