Passle's technology allows users to select short quotes or passages from online articles and comment on them. There are limits on the amount of text that can be selected (140 words) and it always attributes the source. When a user quotes from a source, they are able to critique or review the material in their comment. UK copyright law and the British Library provide guidance that limited quotations are allowed for purposes of critique or review if the source is acknowledged and a sufficient amount of assessment or discussion is also provided.
