THE CONCEPT OF DOCILE BODY • The concept by French philosopher Michel Foucault - Most influential thinker in his time • In his book ‘Discipline and Punish – The birth of the prison’ he gave the theory of Docile Body
• Basically for Soldiers – trained, shaped and then body automatically get command • Not just physically but the control over mind • Forcing psychologically • Break the rules you would be punished • Discipline is in the center
IN INDIAN CULTURE • Concept came in culture • Society and Religion create Robots • Religion shaped the mind • Comman people, poor people, lower caste people and women are trained to follow standard of life created by Elite

NULEENI •NULEENI AS DOCILE BODY A powerless Woman Shaped by Religion By force going to be a Sati Trained by Patriarchal Society Mentally and physically Controlled Breaks the rules of disciplinary society
CONTINUED…. • Surrounded by the social and religion rules and regulations • What religion and society taught that a wife should devoted to her husband and must serve to her husband • Have not raised her voice against Sati pratha • She ran away because she did not love her husband
CONTINUED…… • If you break the rules of society you will be punished • When Fakeer died she also chooses to die and willingly became his Sati • For the sake of her love
WOMEN AS DOCILE BODY • Also governed by society • Lack of knowledge • Haven’t any rights to take decisions • Provok Nuleeni to be a sati by singing the song of death ‘Happy! Thrice happy thus early to leave Earth and it’s sorrows, for heaven and its bliss Who that hath known it at parting would grieve Quitting a world so disastrous at this ?’
FAKEER AS AN EXAMPLE OF DOCILE BODY • A Muslim Fakeer • Broke the rule of society by Brought her with him and stopped her to being Sati • And for this so called crime society punished him by killing him
GO AGAINST THE RULES OF SOCIETY • Break the rule of society • Punished by killing • There are some rules in society and rigion which one should must follow • If they deny they will be punished
