Introduction to humor in public speaking - Manu Melwin Joymanumelwinjoy
油
Some consider humor to be the Holy Grail of public speaking. The old adage, Always start with a joke, endures like no other. Behind this is the idea that a well-timed gag will win over any audience and open them up to your message. This document appears to discuss change management lessons learned from how eagles teach their young to fly.
Employee A completed the task of crossing a river to retrieve a box within the allotted hour using a shared boat for $10. Employee B completed the same task in half the time by taking another employee in need across on a rented motoscooter for $30. Employee Q realized inefficiencies in how the task was being performed and created a standard operating procedure to complete it within budget and time. Employee O recognized the task itself was unnecessary and negotiated with a boatman to deliver boxes for $3 daily instead of continuing to assign employees to cross the river. The manager praised Employees B, Q, and O for demonstrating initiative in improving efficiencies beyond simply completing the assigned task.
The importance of clarity is easy to understand. Imagine arriving on the outskirts of a large city and being told to drive to a particular home or office in that city. But heres the catch.
Here is a good question: If goal setting is automatic, why is it that so few people have clear, written, measurable, time-bounded goals that they work toward each day?
Imagine this exercise: you take a homing pigeon out of its roost, put it in a cage, cover the cage with a blanket, put the cage in a box and then place the box into a closed truck cab.
