The commander is sending a farewell message to thank the Navy recruiting team for their outstanding work in recruiting over 75,000 new sailors during a time of rapid change and uncertainty. The commander credits the recruiting team with maintaining high standards of excellence and directly contributing to the Navy's combat readiness by recruiting sailors with the needed technical skills. The commander expresses confidence that the recruiting team will continue their passionate work under the new commander, RDML Graf.

This is an invocation given at a graduation ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary. It asks those present to bow their heads in thanks for bringing everyone together to celebrate the graduates. It praises the perseverance of the graduates and asks for the courage to continue lives of service. It also asks a higher power to regard everyone with fairness and compassion, and to grant an honorable reflection on how people handled both success and hardship when their journeys end.

Raphael Bemporad gave an opening remarks presentation titled "Five Aspirations: Designing Brands for Humans" where he discussed five aspirations of the aspirational generation: 1) Abundance Without Waste, embracing more experiences with fewer resources. 2) Truly As You Are, welcoming imperfection as honest and beautiful. 3) Get Closer, connecting with the people behind brand promises. 4) All of It, experiencing freedom beyond binaries and finish lines. 5) Do Some Good, finding agency and impact in everyday life. He argued that understanding these aspirations is an opportunity for brands to better serve consumers as humans.

After 3-4 years, he hopes to either start his own company or join academia.

Are Controversies in Statistics Relevant for Responsible AI/ML? A central debate in statistics concerns probability’s role: is it to control error rates (frequentist) or express belief (Bayesian)? Frequentists prioritize error control, ensuring rare false rejections and strong power to detect falsity. For Bayesians, by contrast, evidence from the data resides in the likelihood ratios, ignoring error probabilities. The replication crisis fueled criticism of statistical significance tests, which are blamed for irreproducibility. Yet, selection biases—p-hacking, optional stopping—are the real issue. Ironically, Bayesian alternatives (e.g., Bayes factors) fail to guard against these biases, leading to misguided reforms that discard crucial error control. The same data-dredged hypothesis can occur in Bayes factors, and Bayesian updating—but without direct grounds to criticize flouting of error statistical control. AI/ML shifts the focus away from understanding data generation to optimizing prediction. But when it comes to problems of checking if AI/ML outputs are responsible and trustworthy, I argue, error statistical considerations become relevant. Fairness hacking, and explanation (justification) hacking in XAI, like p-hacking and BF hacking, can make it easy to obtain misleading interpretations of data. Reforms from error statistics: preregistration and adjustment of error rates, are relevant for critically appraising them. I put forward a general requirement that is operable in both fields: A claim lacks warrant if little if anything has been done to detect its flaws—it fails a severe test.

It has been my highest honor serving as your commander in the greatest Navy Recruiting Force in the world’s #1 Navy... America’s Navy: A global force for good. You successfully recruited the highest quality young men and women to serve our Nation which will have a lasting impact on our Navy for years to come. During times of rapid change and uncertainty, you recruited more than 75,000 people who answered the call to serve. Your outstanding accomplishments are directly responsible for recruiting Sailors with the right technical skills vital to the Navy’s combat readiness, today and in the future. As the face of our Navy to the Nation, you maintained the highest standards of excellence. Attracting and recruiting the highest quality people is the most important mission in the Navy, and when I take command of Carrier Strike Group THREE, I will have the honor of serving with the Sailors YOU recruited.
