I Know You Want
the Constitution
What is it you ask?
The Constitution is a new
found independence and
a fresh start. It tells about
the House of
Representatives, the
Senate, the three
branches, etc. It also
states what the
governments powers are.
Anti-federalists think that
the Constitution is going
to take away the rights of
the people, but it is
made for the people.
Branches
Legislative Branch
 Makes laws
for
the nation
Judicial Branch
 Explains and
interprets laws
Executive Branch
 Enforces laws
Checks and Balances
The checks and balances system make sure
that no branch holds more power than
another. That way there is no absolute
power, like in other countries.
Changes CAN be made!
Before you start thinking this is a permanent
constitution, remember this, nothing is set
in stone. The document CAN have
changes made, when necessary. It may
even include a Bill of Rights for your
personal protection.
Why's it better than the
Articles of Confederation?
Articles of
Confederation

Unicameral Congress

2 to 7 members per state in
Congress

1 vote per state

1 year term for legislative office

New states admitted by agreement
of 9 states

Taxes appointed by Congress,
collected by states
The
Constitution

Bicameral Congress, divided into
House of Representatives and
Senate

2 senators per Congress,
representatives appointed by
population

1 vote per senate or
representative

2 years representative, 6 senators

New states admitted by agreement
of Congress

Taxes laid and collected by
Congress
Why should it be ratified?
The Constitution should be ratified because
it is an improvement from the Articles of
Confederation. This country needs stability,
balance and unity, and this constitution
gives us that. We will have a country in
harmony once this is approved and can
begin to build our independent futures.
I know you want it now . . .
After hearing all this information on why the
Constitution is a significant document,
there is no way you can walk away! It's
THE document of it's time.
